Always contact your pharmacy first. The pharmacy will then contact the doctor and you will be notified by your doctor if further testing or an appointment is needed before your prescription can be filled.

Why do we test hormone levels thru a saliva test as opposed to a blood test?

Initially, hormone levels can be tested through a blood or saliva test. However, the most accurate way to get levels of hormones in the tissues is thru a saliva test. Once a patient is put on hormone creams, levels can only be tested thru the saliva.

How often should the testing of hormones be done?

Levels should be acquired before stating a hormone replacement therapy and again 8 weeks later. Anytime there is a change in a medication, we recommend testing levels after 8 weeks. Once you have stabilized levels we then check yearly.
